Our Range Of Traditional & Contemporary Patio Slabs
Patio slabs form the foundation of many outdoor spaces. You might be creating a quiet corner for outdoor dining, or building a larger terrace for entertaining; whatever the occasion, the right paving helps shape the character of a garden. From traditional flagstones to modern paving, the choice of material, colour, and finish plays a big role in how the space feels day to day.
Our range of patio slabs includes a wide selection of Stonecast® paving, natural stone and porcelain options in different tones, textures, and sizes. This variety makes it easy to choose the right garden paving to design a patio that fits your home and garden rather than feeling like a standard layout.

Why choose patio slabs?
Patio slabs offer a durable and adaptable surface for outdoor living areas, adding character where a plain concrete surface can’t, and reliability where grass isn’t ideal. When installed correctly on a suitable base, good-quality patio pavers create a stable floor for seating, dining tables, planters, and everyday garden use.
A well-laid patio gives structure to outdoor areas, making it easier to arrange seating, dining tables, planters, and other features without worrying about uneven ground.
Patio tiles’ size and shape also make planning layouts straightforward. Because they cover more ground than smaller paving units, they help outdoor spaces feel open rather than busy. The same paving can be carried from a main terrace into paths, steps, or seating areas (particularly with the help of cobbles or garden path edging), helping the overall design feel calm and deliberate rather than broken into separate sections.
Patio slabs colour and material options
Patio slabs come in a wide variety of materials, each with its own qualities and visual character. Natural stone paving remains one of the most popular choices for patios because it combines durability with distinctive colour variation.
Common patio stone includes:
- Sandstone paving: warm tones and gentle texture that suit relaxed garden settings
- Limestone: consistent colour and refined surface finish
- Slate: deeper colours with natural cleft texture
- Granite: dense stone with excellent durability
- Porcelain: modern paving with uniform colour and minimal maintenance
- Yorkstone: a quintessential British stone that brings a classic edge
- Stonecast®: authentic reproduction stone with a timeless, traditional flagstone finish.
Across the Westminster Stone collection, you’ll find a range of styles and shapes for your project. Surface finishes range from riven and textured to smooth or sawn edges, giving flexibility when designing either traditional or contemporary patio layouts.
Our signature Stonecast® collection combines handcrafted heritage with a timeless style that works as well in modern gardens as in period properties. These slabs and swimming pool stone, with reliable underfoot grip and water resistance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Patio slabs are commonly made from natural stone, porcelain, or concrete. Natural stone options include limestone, sandstone, slate, and granite, each offering different textures and colours.
While standard concrete paving often lacks character, our Stonecast® range offers the best of both worlds. Natural stone provides beautiful variation, but Stonecast® is specifically engineered to capture the authentic texture and time-worn patina of reclaimed flagstones while offering more consistent thicknesses and dimensions. This makes it easier to lay than many natural stones while delivering a far more premium, high-end finish than traditional concrete slabs. Ultimately, the choice depends on whether you prefer the unique unpredictability of natural stone or the authentic, traditional character and reliability of Stonecast®.
Thickness varies by material and intended use. Natural stone patio slabs are commonly around 18–25 mm thick, whereas our Stonecast® paving slabs are 40 mm in thickness for extra strength and durability. Porcelain slabs can be thinner due to their strength.
Avoiding these common pitfalls will help make sure your patio stays level and looks professional for years to come:
- The "Dot and Dab" Method: Placing slabs on five spots of mortar creates hollow voids. This leads to rocking and frost damage, and can cause staining on the surface of the stone. Always use a full mortar bed.
- Poor Drainage: Failing to incorporate a slight slope (ideally 1:60) away from your home when laying slabs can lead to standing water, which causes slippery algae growth and potential damp issues.
- Inadequate Sub-base: A patio is only as strong as its foundation. Not using enough of a sub-base or failing to compact it properly often eventually leads to sinking and uneven slabs.
- Not Leaving Enough Room: Laying slabs touching each other with no gap prevents proper jointing. The edges of the slabs can chip and crack as the ground naturally expands and contracts. Always leave a consistent joint gap of 5mm–10mm between patio slabs.
