Paving for Greenhouse at The Patchworking Garden Project
Last summer Alitex asked us to provide Barrington paving for their greenhouse for a competition for charities and organisations. The aim was to be able to provide a greenhouse package worth over 80,000. The greenhouse to be gifted was the 'Messenger' which was in situ at Alitex's head office in Torberry. With the ethos of reuse and recycle in mind, Alitex wanted to provide a second life for the greenhouse while supporting a local community that would really benefit from it.
The Patchworking Garden Project was the winner out of over 20 applicants and was established in 2014 to bring positive change to people’s lives through the benefits of friendship and gardening. Run entirely by volunteers, they offer gardening, crafting and the opportunity to learn new skills in a safe, non-judgmental space. The project is based in a walled garden on the edge of Dorking and welcomes those living with a physical or mental health condition, learning disability or a challenging life situation.
Winning the greenhouse and paving was a huge deal for the organisation, who previously had a polytunnel that leaked and was open to pests. This new space offers solace and new 'grow your own' opportunities for the 90-odd people who attend each week and we are thrilled to have played a small part in creating a beneficial gardening experience for a community in need.
We supplied Our National Trust Barrington Paving. These beautiful traditionally riven Stonecast flagstones have been skillfully moulded to reflect the time-worn originals found within the grounds and kitchen gardens at National Trust Barrington Court in Somerset. With soft beige & buff hues, these flagstones are stunning when matched with the complementary Brick Pavers for a multitude of interesting designs.
"The paving is integral to the beauty of the greenhouse which is such a treat to work in"
