For the 10th year, Westminster Stone have supplied the Paving and flooring for Alitex's stand at RHS Chelsea. Alitex, who are famous for their beautiful greenhouses and who have yet again won 5 stars for their trade stand. Collaborating with Lamb & Newt, interior stylist Selina Lake, sustainable gardener Parkers Patch and Plants Pennard. Alitex's stand at this year's Chelsea Flower Show was based on an idea for a florists garden and the notion of working from home and making the most of our spaces for living, working, and socialising. Also trying to tread lightly and reduce, reuse and recycle.

The Stand at Chelsea Flower Show

This year, the stand featured two greenhouses and an outside area connecting the two. Jacobean Brick Pavers were laid leading up to the Ickworth greenhouse and at the side creating a rustic path. Honey Limestone was used to complement the brick, offering a warm and traditional feel that highlighted the stunning planting designed by Jake Curley. At the back of the stand was a styled flower arranging table and vintage unit housing many reloved treasures from Lamb & Newt and fabulously colourful floral displays by Selina Lake. A wrought iron pergola was entwined with classic exposed lightbulbs, bringing a lovely glow to the area once the sun had set.

The Scotney Greenhouse

The first of the two greenhouses was the perfectly formed 'Scotney' which is a modern take on a Victorian design. This greenhouse was laid with our Weathered York Flagstones and the antiqued finish paving perfectly complemented the more traditional white frame. This greenhouse was styled by the lovely Julia at Parkers Patch and was all based on sustainable gardening. With the help of Lamb and Newt, they recreated Julia's own working, plastic-free greenhouse from her home in Sussex. Featuring tonnes of ideas around reusing, recycling and reducing waste. Inside were some brilliant ideas like growing your own gourd birdhouse and even your own luffa and who knew we could grow a pineapple in our British climate! Julia also offers advice and courses for those wanting to 'grow their own' along with her book 'The Little Growers Cookbook'.

I was so thrilled to be asked to style the Sctoney by Alitex because it gave me the opportunity to showcase my sustainable sowing and growing methods and to prove that you dont need a large garden or patio to grow your own food. Most of my growing is from seed and I love experimenting and trying to extend the seasons, a greenhouse helps enormously with this. In todays climate, #grownnotflown is important, not only because eating seasonally tastes better but it helps the enviroment too.

The Ickworth Greenhouse

The second greenhouse was Alitex's largest, 'The Ickworth', featuring a modern black frame. The Ickworth has a spacious interior with plenty of room for growing, entertaining or both! This space was laid with Border Mudstone Porcelain Paving, complimenting the more modern frame. The Porcelain Tiles were paired with vintage pieces from Lamb and Newt and styled by the talented Selina Lake. This greenhouse oozed early autumnal hues and warm, cosy vibes, complete with a log burner from Dimplex. Selina used beautiful fabrics in soft tones and patterns signalling the transition from summer into autumn. The flower arrangements were spectacular - bursting with bright dahlias, rosehip and echinacea.

Selina Lake has styled a previous collaboration with Alitex and Westminster Stone at the 2019 RHS Chelsea Flower Show, featuring neon lights and florals along with our Ashbourne Beige Porcelain. She has also written many books with styling tips and ideas for creating beautiful, ambient spaces including 'Garden Style' and 'Outdoor Living'.

We were honoured to be asked by Alitex to help them create their greenhouse sanctuaries for Chelsea 21. Collaborating with Selina and Julia was a real pleasure. Both such different creatives, but each playing perfectly to our re-loved mix-century style. The sustainable life that Alitex hero plays a huge part in our business ideals. We couldnt think of a better collaboration and are truely grateful for them having us along for the ride.
