In the picturesque landscape of Bronygarth, Shropshire, a sensitive extension project sought to seamlessly blend the old with the new. The vision was to create an oak-framed addition that felt intrinsically connected to the original cottage, a harmonious marriage of traditional charm and modern design. Our project using the Oxford Courtyard Paving is located in Bronygarth Shropshire. It’s a cottage built with beautiful stone all original set in outstanding scenery with a perfect view of Chirk castle.

The Oak frame extension we had designed and built for this cottage needed something to tie it into the original features. As it was built with mostly oak and glass it added a modern essence so we needed a paving slab that matched well with the original stone that would perfectly tie everything together. 

Can you tell us about the design of the garden?

We knew that Westminster Stone was the company we wanted to work with, we like to support local businesses as well as Westminster Stone having a variety of Paving that works so well with our projects featuring original stone or brick properties. We wanted this extension to look as if it was always meant to be there and we think by using the Oxford path slabs all around the new extension, it achieved this plan. 

We chose to work alongside DNE Electrical Ltd who have produced fantastic work with their exterior lighting, really accentuating the flow from the oak frame into the patio and path areas. We also worked alongside Listers Interiors who provided stunning country cottage home and exterior furniture and accessories, again another link in the chain crucial to maintaining that original and continuous design the cottage extension needed.

Why did you choose Oxford Courtyard Paving?

We chose the Oxford Courtyard paving for their weathered appearance and lovely cream & buff tones matching perfectly with the cottage stone. 

We could not have asked for a better array of colours within the Oxford Courtyard Flagstones. The cream, buffs and even slight grey hues complement the stone so fantastically well as you can see but the weathered appearance is also a quality we needed to have for this project to work so successfully.

What do you think they have added to your design?

The Oxford Courtyard flagstones have really helped to bring the project to its high standard. They sit so beautifully within the cottage garden landscape and add that sense of warmth and light even within the winter months. They look outstanding at any time of the day but our preference is when the sun is at its highest at midday this is when the authenticity of these slabs really shine through but equally at sunset where our clients can sit and relax outside with the exterior lighting on and dimmed just enough to show the beauty of the flagstones. 

How was your experience of working with Westminster Stone?

We have experienced fantastic service from Westminster Stone, from our initial visit to source these flagstones, to a smooth delivery and even sharing our final design images. The team members are so well educated in their knowledge of the products providing valid opinions to help reach the best end product without any hard sell approaches. They have such a sense of professionalism when communicating with each sector and really couldn’t have accommodated our needs any more.
