The Design Brief

We purchased our property 2 and a half years ago. It was originally thought to be a Coach House for one of the large houses nearby, dating back to c. 1850. However, prior to being developed into a dwelling, the Coach House was used as a store for a local wine merchant and then as offices. In later years the building had been left to decay and the surrounding grounds were completely overgrown before being developed into a dwelling.

The Cotswold Garden Design

We were really lucky that the property renovation was done sympathetically and in keeping with the surrounding properties and environment.  Maintaining this was uppermost in our minds when looking to landscape the driveway and gardens. It was also important to us to enhance the open aspect and to use warm colour tones to complement the Cotswold stone of the main building. Being able to marry a traditional feel yet modern look to enhance the property, was paramount.

The product choices

As cost was a large consideration due to the amount of paving required (146.5m2), we looked at several ‘online’ suppliers. However, we soon realised that to achieve our goal, we needed to see and feel the product. We visited a few garden centres in the area and then found Westminstersone at Burford Garden Centre.

The display area was large and well laid out, and the advice and help from Michael their representative was second to none.  Having explained our brief, he helped us narrow down the choice and pointed out options to ensure the area was ‘broken up’ with the use of smaller setts between the paving stones. What we hadn’t wanted, was to create a large uniform paving area, which with Michael’s help we achieved using Hand Cut Honey Cathedral flagstones and setts.

We are delighted with the paving area and so pleased to have used Westminster products. I can fully recommend them: from product choice, quality, and advice, to the ease of purchase and delivery.
